Tell me something about yourself
"I put myself in this category of 'survivor of self' because I spent my twenties doing whatever I wanted to do, I spent my thirties trying to get over whatever I did to myself in my twenties, and in my forties it's finally starting to come together. I realize that the music has always been cathartic, it's always been therapy for me."
Tell me something about this song
"Most of my stuff, because it's from that personal perspective and because of a lot of the rough roads that I've taken myself down... People don't come to me for the giggles and the ha ha ha, ya know. This song is a very special one to me. My life long confidant, best friend, brother, since literally I was six months old and he was two days old, died of a heroin overdose last year. So, while this song wasn't originally written for him, it has come to be his song. Shortly after he died I would find myself on stage talking to him in my head. It's a spiritual song for me. It's dedicated to Coleman Lewis."
